Your first snapshot: start with the whole picture
Bring your accounts together, check currencies and liabilities, then build a consistent snapshot habit.
For iPhone, iPad and Mac
List accounts, not every transaction
Start with your cash, investments, property and liabilities. Wert records where your assets stand at a point in time, so you do not need to reconstruct your transaction history.
Count each asset once. Cash already included in an investment account’s balance should not also appear as a separate asset.
Keep each account in its original currency
Enter amounts in the currency the account actually uses, then choose a display currency for your dashboard. Converting an amount yourself and labelling it with the original currency would convert it twice.
Include your liabilities. Net worth is assets minus liabilities; assets alone do not show the complete picture.
Check the details and save
Review the accounts, amounts and currencies before saving. Check automatically filled values too, especially for accounts with recent transfers or changes.
This snapshot becomes your starting point. Pick a rhythm you can keep, such as the same day each month, for your next snapshot.
Read changes in context
Check dates and account coverage when comparing snapshots. Adding or omitting an account, or moving money in and out, can change your net worth. An increase is not automatically an investment return.
Currency movements also affect assets held in different currencies. A consistent snapshot method makes those changes easier to understand.
